Today I joined the Alpine Club of Canada for the very first time. I'm not sure why exactly, but I think being able to book spots at huts earlier and at reduced rates had something to do with it. Apart from that, they give you 5% off Yamnuska courses, so I figured the full membership will pay for itself if I take the Intro to Mountaineering course. And then there are the free courses - like a 5 day intro to climbing, etc. I think it'll be worth it for new adventures. To keep my options open, I joined the Calgary and Rocky Mountain sections. There's even a New Year's Eve at Bow Hut. And these are all the other huts to explore.
