My mom's been staying with me for over a week, and for the first time I feel fine leaving her alone. Same goes for last Saturday, when I was out hiking all day and she was happy to be on her own. On Sunday morning when I slept in she even snuck into the car to get buns (and she's not supposed to be driving before January). She's been very tired and the chemo fatigue has definitely kicked in, but with the last chemo delayed again she more awake now. Her blood counts are low though, so today they prescribed her a syringe that she'll be getting on day 17 of each chemo cycle. Better be good stuff as two 6mL syringes were $4,871. AB Bl.Cr. says they pay for it is it is for curative intent, but not for palliative. So, we shall see what they determine based on a doctor's letter. And of course this is another thing that'll put me on high alert in a couple of days - watching for side effects. Apparently this stuff can rupture your spleen and make breathing difficult, both of whihch would be emergencies. Most people just experience bone and joint pain, while others have no side effects at all. Let's keep hoping she does as well with it as with the chemo!!!
