Hawai'i: Waimea, Tantalus, and Waikiki

Sunday, September 25:

A couple of days ago when we took a drive around the eastern half of the island we decided we'd need more time for Waimea, so put that as our main agenda item for the day.  We had a leisurely start to the day, and by 9am were off to the north shore.  We opted for the little gold cart tram, so took that to the falls.  There we sat for quite some time, but M. decided that she would be able to walk back, so we did.  These are some treasures we found along the way:

I think this is a school for Hawaiian heritage/tradition

Love these trees, whatever they are - nice shade

After exploring the Waimea Valley we went to the north/northwest shore.  It's a more local spot, and one we didn't hang out at for too long.

Monday, September 26:

This was another explorer day, this time starting right in Honolulu with the Tantalus Ridge Drive.  after that it was off to Valley of the Temples where we checked out Byodo-In, and then took a quick afternoon stroll down Waikiki.  We just lasted an hour there as shopping's not our thing.

Also this evening I learned of a friend's passing, which occupied my mind for the days to come.  So young, and so full of life.
